Kevin Streelman finished tied for fourth at The Barclays tournament at 7-under par. Play concluded Sunday at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J. It was his second straight top-10 finish.
Streelman, a Wheaton Warrenville South graduate, led entering the final round thanks to a birdie on the 16th hole during the third round to get to 8-under. On the fringe of the green, he sank a 25-foot putt to grab the lead.
Two bogeys on the front nine Sunday saw Streelman slip out of the lead, but birdies on 16 and 17 helped him vault up near the top of the leaderboard. Unfortunately, he was not part of a three-way playoff to determine the winner. Vijay Singh, Sergio Garcia and Kevin Sutherland all finished at 8-under par with Singh winning the playoff.
Though Streelman just missed out on his elusive first PGA Tour victory, his finish at The Barclays vaulted him up the FedEx Cup points standings. He is 6,250 points back of first place and his showing at The Barclays saw his rank in the FedEx standings go from 102nd to 37th. Three more top-10 finishes over the final three weeks of the FedEx Cup points chase, culminating at the Tour Championship Sept. 25-28, could have Streelman contending for the championship.
