
Boys basketball
The Falcons earned their first DuPage Valley Conference win over host Naperville North in impressive and dominant fashion.
After trailing 33-23 at halftime and falling behind by as many at 16 points in the third quarter, Matt Matosian scored seven straight points and 11 of his team-high 19 in the third as the Falcons (5-7, 1-3) battled back to take a 47-46 lead into the fourth quarter.
Wheaton North went on a 22-6 run in the third as Zach Dungee poured in six of his 14 points and Mike Small five of his 10.
After taking the lead the Falcons held the Huskies at bay, allowing just nine points in the fourth quarter. Conversely, the Falcons scored 19 in the final frame. Chris Bradley scored seven of his 11 while Matosian tallied five.
Trey Martin (six points), Mike Fitzpatrick (four points) and T.J. Schalk (two points) also aided in Wheaton North's win. Dungee added nine rebounds.
Girls basketball
In their first action since Christmas the Falcons iced a 49-42 win over Glenbard East in the final minute.
Lauren Hoffman's steal inside of a minute to play and free throws from Brooke Olson and Madison Goudy secured the win for North (11-5 overall, 4-1 DuPage Valley Conference).
The Falcons' late heroics came after the Rams (10-5, 2-3) used an 8-0 run to take a 37-36 lead early in the fourth quarter.
A Lauren Graham bucket in the paint helped the Falcons regain a 44-42 lead. East called timeout to set up an inbounds play, but Hoffman intercepted the ensuing inbounds pass and Olson and Goudy iced the win at the charity stripe.
Goudy and Olson were a combined 7 of 8 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Goudy was a sparkling 4-for-4 as she and Paige Fowler each scored a team-high 10 points. Graham tallied eight while Olson and Hoffman poured in six apiece.
Glenbard East's Kelsy Taylor scored a game-high 18 points while Olivia Tefilek added 10 points.
