Donald Brown, 30, of 890 Foxworth Boulevard in Lombard was sentenced this morning by DuPage County Judge Perry Thompson. Brown pleaded guilty to two counts of Aggravated Robbery of a Person Over the Age of 60 in early May.
One of the charges stems from an incident on Feb. 14 where Brown followed a 78-year-old woman home from a Glen Ellyn grocery store. As the victim was preparing to enter her home, Brown snatched her purse and in doing so, knocked the woman to the ground. The woman suffered minor injuries, and Brown was picked up by Glen Ellyn Police shortly after the incident.
Through their investigation, police connected Brown to another incident three days earlier, where he followed an 82-year-old woman home from the same grocery store and took her purse as she was about to enter her home. The woman suffered minor injuries after Brown knocked her to the ground.
“Mr. Brown chose his victims carefully,” DuPage County State's Attorney Joe Birkett stated in a release this afternoon. “He waited for elderly, defenseless women to leave the grocery store. He followed them home and when the opportunity presented itself, he stole from them. I believe that Judge Thompson’s sentence demonstrates that this type of attack on our elderly population will not be tolerated and will carry significant consequences.
