Wheaton, IL -

Andy Johnson, president of the Community Unit School District 200 Board of Education responded to rumors that have hovered around a series of mysterious closed session meetings held by board members this month.

With blinds shut and doors closed, members of the board met for nearly two hours during a third night of talks, Tuesday, at the district's headquarters in Wheaton, only to exit and recess until Wednesday night.

As he exited the building, Johnson declined to comment on the nature of the talks. Asked if the children are in danger, Johnson said, "Absolutely not. I will say some of the rumors I've heard are totally mean and totally unprofessional."

The board has not said one word about the reason for the meetings, but agendas have stated the purpose: "Closed session on appointment, employment or dismissal of an employee."
Board members will reconvene Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The board's regular meeting is at 7:30 p.m. the same night. Johnson did not say whether or not there would be action in regards to the closed session meetings.

Speculation has circled among parents that the meetings have something to do with District Superintendent Richard Drury, who has not been to work for several weeks. Johnson said that Drury is still the district's superintendent.
