Wheaton, IL -
Witnesses have said a white panel van was parked in the driveway of one of the two Wheaton homes robbed in the past month, police announced today.
The thefts occurred during daylight hours in the neighborhood around Seven Gables Park.
Wheaton police said that sometimes burglars park in the driveway of a home they are breaking into so it appears they are doing work. The homeowner where the van was parked told police there were no scheduled appointments that day.
The first burglary occurred Sept. 16 on the 1700 block of South Thompson Drive.
The second was on Tuesday on the 100 block of Danada Drive.
Stolen items include computers, cameras, jewelry, cash and a handgun.
Wheaton Deputy Police Chief Tom Meloni declined to say at which burglarized house the van was seen parked.
For one thing, he said, police do not want to tilt their hand, releasing too much information from the ongoing investigation. Also, they are not entirely sure the van is linked to the crime, he said.
Without a license-plate number or other description to track down the vehicle, they instead are notifying residents to be on the look out for suspicious activity, Meloni said.
