Downers Grove North edged Waubonsie Valley 352-341 at the varsity level of the eight-team Trojan Team Challenge on Saturday, and were second to the Warriors (479-423) in the overall rankings combining varsity and lower-level squads.
Downers South was fifth at the varsity level (176) and fourth overall (261).
The Trojans’ Haley Sims and Adrienne Bicek were the individual stars of the meet, each winning two individual events. Sims was first in the 100-yard freestyle (54.95) and 200 freestyle (1:57.37), and Bicek dominated both the 200 individual medley (2:07.21, a seven-second winning margin) and the 500 freestyle (4:57.97, winning that race by 21 seconds). Downers North also won the 400 free relay (3:40.07) behind Sims, Emily Wilkinson, Emma Buckley and Bicek.
Buckley was second in both the 200 freestyle (2:02.39) and the 500 freestyle (5:19.15). Other top Downers North swimmers in individual events were Wilkinson (third in the 200 IM), Jessica Johnson (fourth in the 50 freestyle) and Amanda Take (seventh in the 200 freestyle).
Returning state finalist Alexis Spivak led Downers South with her first-place swim of 58.55 in the 100 butterfly.
Ellen Wiese took second in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.66), and Rachael Bomicino (fifth in the 100 backstroke), Emily Voss (sixth in the 50 freestyle), Tanya Kaenkumchorn (seventh in the 100 butterfly) and Meghan Lapeta (eighth in the 500 freestyle) were other top Mustang varsity placers.
