Fourteen points were all that separated Westmont's boys cross country team from its ultimate goal at Saturday's Class 1A state meet in Peoria.

The Sentinels instead settled for a very respectable runner-up trophy with 123 points. Elmwood Co-op won the top prize with 109.

Kevin Barnacle and Henry Arndt earned nearly identical results with matching times of 15:54 to finish 28th and 29th, respectively.

John Reasor (33rd, 15:57), Scott Dvorak (41st, 16:09) and Morris Jaspers (73rd, 16:36) rounded out the scoring.

R.J. Pleva (83rd, 16:44) and Patrick Robertson (146th, 18:01) completed the Westmont 7.
