A Crystal Lake man was transported to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital after swallowing a bag of heroin during a traffic stop Nov. 17, police said.

Rodney Bracken, 32, 534 Eagle St., Crystal Lake, swallowed the heroin after being pulled over for expired registration around 11:56 a.m. at Interstate 290 and Church Road, according to reports.
Dennis Stebbins, 36, of Algonquin was riding in the car and police found him in possession of a hypodermic needle, officers said.

According to the report, police found six more bags of heroin on Stebbins at the police station, where he damaged all four walls and a chair while in the holding cell.

Stebbins was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and criminal damage to state supported property. Bracken remained at the hospital until being released by a doctor, police said.

Phone calls to the Elmhurst Police Department were not returned by press time.
