Officials from the Village of Westmont said on Monday that Fire Chief Frank Trout remains on leave from his position at the village, and there has been no change in that status.

Trout was placed on unpaid administrative leave with the village on Dec. 31, a day after he was arrested for drunken driving by the DuPage County Sheriff’s Department in unincorporated Westmont.

Village Manager Ron Searl said today that there has been no change in Trout’s status with the village, and that he will remain on leave for an undisclosed amount of time.

Trout was charged on Dec. 30 with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving too fast for conditions and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after his vehicle struck a parked car along the 390 block of Adams Street. He has a court date scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 18, in DuPage County Circuit Court, according to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s office.

Deputy Chief Dave Weiss was named acting fire chief on Dec. 31, and will run the day-to-day operations of the department for the foreseeable future, Searl said.

Trout had been with the village for more than 40 years. During his tenure in Westmont, which began as a police officer in 1969, Trout has served as a police sergeant and had been fire chief since 1992.
