Book drive to make house calls for donations

Sponsors of the Great American Book Drive want you to donate old books that may be collecting dust, and they’re going the extra mile, literally, to get them.
Zipcar, official sponsor of the Great American Book Drive, will deploy a fleet of cars out into the Chicago area to pick up books from local homes, allowing area residents to donate books without leaving their neighborhood.
The “book drive,” hosted by Better World Books and Open Books, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 26 in Chicago, 213 W. Institute Place.
To schedule a car to pick up your books, go to open-books.org or call (312) 492-4076.
A large percent of the profits from the books will go to fund reading programs in the Chicago community.
