The weather is turning cooler, but the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County has plenty of events on tap to keep residents outdoors as the leaves change to shades of orange and red.
 

What Kline Creek Farm corn harvest

When 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday through Monday

Where Kline Creek Farm, County Farm Road, a half-mile south of North Avenue, Winfield

Details On a farm, autumn is the time of harvest, a culmination of the year’s hard field work and a period of preparation for the cold months ahead. Help with real farm work, harvesting and storing corn that will feed the farm’s cows and sheep this winter. Use authentic late 19th century tools to try shocking, shucking and shelling. Reservations are not required.

What Danada Fall Festival

When 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday

Where Danada Equestrian Center, Naperville Road, just north of Interstate 88, Wheaton

Details Main-arena events will feature the center’s resident Percherons, American quarterhorses and mustangs and the Danada volunteer musical horseback drill team. Numerous guest horses and riders will round out the day’s performances. Visitors can take a hayride through the autumn woods, watch as a farrier makes horseshoes, tour the Kentucky-style barn that once housed Kentucky Derby winner Lucky Debonair, and learn about horse care, grooming, and tack. They also can visit the Danada House, the former home of Dan and Ada Rice.

What Fall trout fishing

When Trout season begins one hour after sunrise Saturday.

Where Silver Lake at Blackwell Forest Preserve in Warrenville, Deep Quarry Lake at West Branch Forest Preserve in Bartlett and Grove Lake at Wood Dale Grove Forest Preserve in Wood Dale

Details Silver Lake at Blackwell Forest Preserve will be stocked with 2,500 trout, Deep Quarry Lake with 2,150 and Grove Lake with 350. The trout will range from 1 to 1.5 pounds. To allow time for the trout to acclimate, the three lakes will be closed to all fishing through Friday, Oct. 17. The creel limit is five trout per day with no length restriction.

Cost Free to fish, but anglers 16 and older who are not legally disabled must have valid Illinois fishing licenses and inland trout stamps in their possession.

What Halloween Night Walks

When 6 and 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, through Sunday, Oct. 26

Where Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center, 3609 Spring Road, Oak Brook
Details During the one-hour walks, costumed characters will lead groups through the darkened woods to enjoy entertaining skits and spooky surprises that are related to nature and the environment. While education is the primary goal, young and old will have plenty of Halloween fun. Walks are held outdoors regardless of the weather, and participants are encouraged to dress appropriately.

Cost Tickets are $8 each and must be purchased in person in advance at the center.
