As a cancer survivor, Brian Moran has worked most of his life in helping men in the detection and treatment of cancer.
Moran said he was diagnosed with testicular cancer when he was 17 years old. He knew what he wanted to do when he recovered from the disease.
“I decided to dedicate my life to cancer treatment,” he said. “I never looked back.”
Moran is the medical director of the Chicago Prostate Center, located at 815 Pasquinelli Drive in Westmont.
A graduate of the Loyola Stritch School of Medicine, Moran specializes in radiation oncology and uses prostate seed implants to treat the disease, which is done by inserting small radioactive pellets near the cancer area.
“It is one of the latest treatment options for the disease, and we are one of the only treatment centers in the area that is doing this procedure,” Moran said.
He said the most important part of his work is in detecting the disease, and stressing the importance of being examined. One of the problems is that for years, men have been embarrassed to have the testing done, he said.
“Over the last few years, we are seeing a lot more men coming in for the testing now than they were a few years ago, and coming in earlier for it,” Moran said. “A lot of is that their wives and girlfriends are encouraging them to get tested.”
