Westmont police are looking for some suspects who allegedly stole two luxury cars from two dealerships in Westmont earlier this month.
Police said the thefts occurred after suspects broke into two car dealerships during the overnight hours June 8 and stole a 2003 BMW from Laurel BMW, 430 E. Ogden Ave., and a 2009 Audi at Laurel Audi, 276 E. Ogden Ave.
Employees at both dealerships declined to comment and referred all calls on the thefts to the Police Department.
Westmont Police Sgt. Jim Gunther said the thefts appear to be related. Police are looking for some individuals who drove up to both dealerships in a white sport utility vehicle before the cars were taken.
“According to the evidence and surveillance cameras at the dealerships, it looks like this same group of suspects hit both locations that evening,” Gunther said.
Police could not give a good description of the suspects or exactly how many there were due to the bad quality of the surveillance video. Gunther described them only as black males.
At Laurel Audi, the Audi was stolen after the suspects entered through an unlocked door at the business, according to police reports. The value of the car was estimated at $86,000.
At the second dealership, someone forced a way into the building and stole the 2003 BMW, a 55-inch LCD television and six sets of car keys. Loss was estimated at $28,000.
In that case, Gunther said the BMW was found in Chicago several hours later, heavily damaged after getting into an accident. The other items and the Audi have not been found as of press time.
Gunther said police have put out word to other police departments about the dealer thefts, but it appears now that these suspects have not hit any other nearby dealerships at this time.
