A Westmont man was arrested Monday after police said he was found in posession of thousands of images of child pornography.
Timothy Slagh, 55, of 117 Washington St., was arrested about midnight by Clarendon Hills police at the Mayflower Hotel in Clarendon Hills, 407 Ogden Ave. He was charged with one count of child pornography possession.
Police had been investigating Slagh for eight months after receiving information from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. Westmont Police Det. Brian Gruen said the agency informed the department that Slagh had been accessing commercial child pornography on a Web site that was under investigation.
Gruen said results from a forensic search of Slagh’s home computer performed after Westmont police executed a search warrant on his house May 7 revealed “thousands of images” constituting child pornography.
“We don’t have any evidence that he was selling or distributing them,” Gruen said.
A warrant was issued for Slagh’s arrest after computer results came back in the end of June, Gruen said. However, his house was under repair and he was staying in hotels.
Clarendon Hills Police Chief Patrick Anderson said they were given a tip that Slagh was staying at the Mayflower.
Without a warrant to go into his room, Anderson said police came across him outside of the motel, arrested him, and took him to the Westmont Police Department.
“This was just good solid police work, matching wanted faces with wanted names and working cooperatively to remove an offender from our jurisdictions,” Anderson said.
Slagh was taken to the DuPage County jail, and his bail was set at $10,000. According to a jail official he had not posted bail as of Monday.
His court date is set for Aug. 11.
