• Molly Zolad, the new director of Children and Family Ministries at Christ Lutheran Church of Clarendon Hills, announces The Year of the Rock Star, and Jesus is the Lead Singer. On Sunday, Sept. 7, she will be introducing the theme of the new Sunday school year. Kids will form a band, wear their own band tee shirts and record a CD of Christian rock songs. • St. Peter and St. Paul Orthodox Church, 6980 County Line Road, Burr Ridge, will be hosting a computer workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20. Everyone is welcome to enjoy a lively discussion with computer owners and people interested in learning about purchasing computer hardware and software. • Soul Searchers, a monthly forum for group discussion of Christian mystics, will hold its first meeting of the season at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, in the lower level of the rectory at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Parish, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville. • Rainbows is a free program offering a bridge to emotional healing for children and youth confronting death, divorce or another painful family transition. The Rainbows program is offered at The Union Church of Hinsdale, 137 S. Garfield Ave. The program is designed for children between the ages of 4 and 14, and is open to the community. The seven-week program is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Mondays, beginning Oct. 6 through Nov. 17. Groups will meet in the Christian education rooms. • The congregation of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Downers Grove will dedicate its building, which has been expanded and completely remodeled in a $5 million building project, at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 7. Beginning at noon, the congregation will begin a celebration of the dedication that will include lunch, a variety of musical performances, activities for children, and a ceremony of appreciation for those who have led the building project. • The Christian Church of Clarendon Hills, 5750 Holmes Ave., will offer DivorceCare at 7 p.m. every Wednesday beginning Sept. 3. This weekly program and support group is for people who are separated or divorced. Each session includes a video on an issue related to divorce and recovery. Cost is $12 for the workbook. • Young At Heart, a group of senior adults at First United Methodist Church of Downers Grove, 1032 Maple Ave., will be celebrating their 6th anniversary Wednesday, Sept. 10, in Chapel Hall at the church.  Cost is $10 per person. • The renowned gospel choir “Chosen” and its founder and leader Bryant Jones will perform at a Sunday brunch at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, as part of the 50th Anniversary Hinsdale Antiques Show at The Community House in Hinsdale, 415 Eighth St., Hinsdale. Families are welcome. Sunday brunch tickets are $45 per person, $15 per child under 10, and $500 for a premium table of eight. Brunch tickets include admission to the show. • First Presbyterian Church of Downers Grove is inviting the community to kick off the new ministry year in style. On Sept. 7, they begin their fall renewal, Reveal, that includes a year-long study of the Bible. • Wisdom survives the ages. Learn “God’s Wisdom for Living: Proverbs & Parables” with the St. Thomas Wednesday Morning Scripture Study Group that will meet from 9 to 11:30 a.m., beginning Sept. 17, in the Parish Ministry Center in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Parish, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville. An orientation session will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, in the Parish Ministry Center. A  nominal fee covers the cost of materials. • Youth Masses will resume for the new season at 6:30 p.m. beginning Sunday, Sept. 21, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Parish, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville. Emphasis on reaching teens and young adults will continue but all ages are welcome to attend the weekly Masses scheduled through next spring.
