Accomplishments

• Michael Gleeson of Downers Grove has been invited by the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy to enroll this fall as a member of their sophomore class, the class of 2010. The average SAT mathematics and verbal scores for the invited students are 652 and 587 respectively. Students offered admission include 115 girls and 116 boys.

• Michael Salazar Jr. of Downers Grove has won a scholarship from State Farm Insurance and will use the money to attend Princeton University this fall. The scholarship is awarded through the National Merit Scholarship Program. State Farm Insurance has partnered with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation to give children of employees the opportunity to receive a higher education. Students were evaluated based on their academic performance, extra-curricular activities, test scores, the school’s recommendation and the student’s personal essay. Michael is a graduate of Downers Grove South High School.

• The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has named the winners of Merit Scholarship awards financed by colleges and universities. College sponsored awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.
