Westmont, IL -

After working for the village of Westmont for more than four decades as a police officer and firefighter, and serving his county as a paratrooper in the Vietnam War, Frank Trout has accomplished much in his life.

But he said his love for the community gives him the most pride.

Trout was award the Rotary International “Paul Harris Fellowship Award” March 25. The award, the highest honor from Rotary International, is given to a citizen who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the community and follows the Rotarian motto of “service above self,” said Westmont Rotary President Bob Airdo.

Airdo said the club was unanimous in its decision to choose Trout.

“We wanted someone that represents Westmont,” said Airdo. “When you think of Westmont, you think of Frank Trout. You always see him around; he never says no. He loves this town – you can hear it in his voice.”

Trout said he is very humbled by the award.

Trout started his career with the village as a candidate firefighter. After serving in Vietnam, he returned to Westmont, where he worked as a police officer and a part-time firefighter until an opening came up in 1992 for Fire Chief. Trout was selected as chief, a position he has held since.

“It’s been my honor to serve the people of Westmont,” Trout said. “God puts people in certain places at certain times, and I’ve been blessed to be able to serve.”

Notable
Trout leads a department of two deputy chiefs, eight captains, 13 lieutenants, nearly 60 part-time firefighters and emergency medical personnel, and 14 full-time firefighters. The department serves about 26,000 residents.
