Four area residents were recognized for their efforts by the Illinois Committee for the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) on January 14-16.

Receiving the Silver Award for 250-499 hours in 2009 were William Glynn, Hinsdale; La Grange Police Chief Michael Holub, Walter (Terry) McCollom, Western Springs; and Maj. Gen. John Scully USAR (Ret.), Riverside.

The President's Volunteer Service Award recognizes individuals that have achieved a certain standard – measured by the number of hours served over a 12-month period or cumulative hours earned over the course of a lifetime.

ESGR is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972 to promote understanding and support among employers of employees who serve as members of the National Guard and Reserve.
