Naperville, IL -

Alexa Sharkey scored 10 minutes into a Class 2A state semifinal match Friday in Naperville, setting the tone for a blistering Wheaton Academy attack.

The Warriors cruised to a 4-0 lead early in the second half en route to a 5-2 victory over Sycamore.

Ally Witt scored her first of two goals in the 18th minute. Leah Fortune, who assisted Sharkey’s goal, found the net three minutes later to give her side a 3-0 halftime advantage.
Crystal Thomas shattered any Sycamore hopes of a comeback when she finished a Jenn Lee pass less than two minutes after the break.

The Spartans cut the deficit to 4-2 before Witt tallied again with four minutes to play. Wheaton Academy goalie Emily Mulder made one save.

The Warriors are set to battle Lemont for the state crown at 1 p.m. Saturday at North Central College. The Indians (21-5) defeated Chatham Glenwood 1-0 in their semifinal Friday.
