The summer season started June 4 with two main events: Winfield Public Library’s annual ice cream social and the opening of the Winfield Chamber’s farmers market.
It was an overcast morning and a bit chilly for the market’s opening Wednesday. There were a few farmers — Tidey Farms, Stojan’s Vegetables, Noffke Family Farms and Gunderson Orchards — whose booths were filled with tomatoes, cucumbers, asparagus, lettuce, potatoes, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries.
A new vendor, Juice Plus, did not make it. Juarez Boyd’s Sewing Nook is back. Boyd makes by hand doll clothes for American Doll or similar-sized dolls. Great Harvest Bread Co. also has returned, as has Fraternite of Notre Dame, whose nuns offer fresh French pastries and breads.
