Successful sale
Donna VanBonCoeur thanked fellow Winfield Area Gardeners members who contributed plants, baked goods and equipment to make Good Old Days a successful fundraiser. Their efforts will support next year’s initiatives, newsletter, community events and program speakers for the group.

Updates
Winfield United volunteers had a busy and entertaining afternoon Sept. 6, when members sponsored several competitions: a bubble gum-blowing contest, watermelon seed-spitting and the always popular minnow races at Creekside Park. Winners received gift certificates, and all the money from the games was forwarded to the Wheaton homeless veterans organization. For the first time, WU sponsored a petting zoo, and church members assisted the zoo staff. The animals were popular with all the children.
Next year, the Winfield Chamber Good Old Days committee will modify the Underhand Free Throw contest so Boy Scout Troop 575 can attract more participants. The 7-Eleven on the southeast corner of Winfield and High Lake roads had its grand opening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 12 and 13. Freshly grilled Big Bite hot dogs along with 12-ounce Slurpee and 32-ounce Big Gulp fountain drinks were available for only 25 cents each.
Final contests
Winfield Golf League golfers had their final night of nine hole contests. They ranged from highest score and longest putt to least putts, most putts, lowest score using only a 7 iron and straightest drive.
