Warrenville, IL -

The celebration continues as The City of Warrenville 175th Anniversary Commission proudly presents “Hooray For Warrenville,” a musical revue honoring Warrenville with song-and-dance routines, Saturday, April 12. Directed by Warrenville resident Brian Lynch, fine arts director at North Central College, the show promises to be a lively, 90-minute capsule of Warrenville’s history and its residents.

Chorus students from Bower, Johnson and St. Irene will perform, as well as the show choir from North Central College in Naperville. Musical acts include a bluegrass group, various church bands and the Warrenville-based Tunes of Glory. Originally formed in 1980 in Montgomery, Tunes of Glory has 30 pipers and drummers, color guard members and students. The group practices each Wednesday evening in Warrenville, and in the warm-weather months, the sweet sounds resonate throughout the City Hall area.

Local talents abound in the revue. Besides tackling the master of ceremonies post, Tom Sipla also will sing, and skits will be performed, one written by Tim Sleep. A lively parody, “Hooray for Warrenville,” based on the “Hooray for Hollywood” theme, will be a guaranteed highlight.

Longtime resident and 175th Anniversary Commission member Carolyn Wondrow said former Chamber of Commerce President Byron Wilkins will present a portion of an original video depicting the history of Warrenville, showcasing events and local residents.

“He donated lots of time for this wonderful, extensive project,” Wondrow said.

City Council members are sure to please the audience with their performance of “You Gotta Have Heart,” dressed as the Warrenville-based Cyclones baseball team. The Cyclones were around from the 1920s to the 1950s, according to Wondrow. The finale will be local favorites, the Brooze Brothers, delighting all with their energetic interpretation of the Blues Brothers — Jake and Elwood Blues.

Commemorative items, such as stuffed teddy bears, stepping stones and T-shirts featuring the 175th Anniversary logo, will be available for purchase. Orders may be placed for the video by Wilkins.

Residents are encouraged to purchase advance tickets to the April 12 show at sites including City Hall, the Warrenville Public Library, the Park District and City Museum. Tickets also will be available at the performance, presented from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Wheaton Warrenville South High School auditorium, 1993 Tiger Trail, Wheaton.

After the show, stay for punch and cookies and visit with neighbors and friends in the commons area of the school.

All neighboring communities are invited to take a glimpse into the history of the town settled by Julius Warren 175 years ago. Continue to check the city Web site at www.warrenville.il.us for updates, and Google “Warrenville, IL 175th Anniversary” for the complete list of all events.

Looking ahead, Saturday, April 26, will usher in the annual Arbor Day celebration, and the Historical Society will hold an ice cream social Wednesday, April 30.
