* Central DuPage Hospital has been re-accredited as a chest pain center — a diagnostic center with proven protocols to help physicians identify the early stages of a heart attack, which might otherwise go undiagnosed.
Establishment of a chest pain center in an emergency department has been shown to reduce mortality rates from myocardial infarctions by 37 percent, according to a recent study in Circulation, the Journal of the American Heart Association. The chest pain center at CDH is one of only five in the Chicago area and the 31st nationwide to be accredited by the Society of Chest Pain Centers.
