Man charged with burglary

A man has been charged with burglary after being arrested in connection with a string of car burglaries.

Kurt Vavra, 22, 5545 Howard Ave., La Grange, was arrested by Western Springs police at about 5:45 p.m. Dec. 3, police said.

Vavra was charged with four felony counts of burglary to motor vehicle, five misdemeanor counts of criminal trespass to motor vehicle and three misdemeanor counts of criminal damage to property.

Police did not specify where the burglaries took place or what was removed from the vehicles.

Drug possession alleged
Fidel Guzman, 20, of Stickney was charged with possession of marijuana and open alcohol after being arrested at about 8:30 p.m. Dec. 2 in the 2600 block of Harlem Avenue, according to reports.

Police said they received a report of two subjects doing drugs in a vehicle. Guzman said he had marijuana in the glove box, and officers located a large plastic bag containing three smaller bags and an open bottle of tequila, according to reports.

Man faces drug charge
Rodrigo Cabrera, 34, of Berwyn, was charged with possession of a controlled substance after being arrested at about 5 p.m. Dec. 3 at the corner of Harlem Avenue and 39th Street, according to reports.

Police said they pulled over Cabrera because the registration did not belong to the vehicle.

Cabrera had  a revoked driver’s license for a previous DUI and had no insurance, according to reports. While doing an inventory search of the vehicle, officers found a baggy containing .34 grams of cocaine, according to reports.

Cabrera was charged with unlawful display of registration sticker and driving with a suspended or revoked license, police said.

Murder suspect arrested
Nebojsa Zelenovic, 37, of Chicago, was arrested Dec. 2 and handed over to U.S. customs officers, after a routine traffic check revealed he was wanted in Serbia for murder, police said.

A vehicle owned by Zelenovic was driving east on Cermak Road, near Wolf Road, at about 10 a.m. when police checked the registration, police said. The check showed an active homicide warrant for Zelenovic and police stopped the driver, who was Zelenovic’s employee. The driver told police Zelenovic could be found at a Broadview trucking company.

Police arrested Zelenovic, who was taken into custody by U.S. Customs immigration officers for the warrant and possible immigration law violations.
