Man charged with DUI
Ismael Vargas, 62, 6337 W. 26th Place, Berwyn, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol after being arrested at about 4 p.m. April 19 at the intersection of Ogden and Madison avenues, according to reports.
Officers were dispatched to Dunkin Donuts, 9200 Ogden Ave., for a man who was seen urinating on the side of the building while holding a beer bottle, according to reports. Police said they located Vargas driving out of Dunkin Donuts and followed him while he swerved down the road.
Vargas failed a field sobriety test and had a blood-alcohol content of .196, according to reports. Police said Vargas had an active warrant in DuPage County for failure to appear in court for a previous DUI charge.
Vargas also was charged with no driver’s license, improper lane usage, failure to signal when required, failure to wear a seat belt and disorderly conduct, according to reports.
RIVERSIDE
Man charged with DUI
Joseph Goodwin, 48, 2232 S. Burr Oak Ave., North Riverside, was charged with aggravated DUI after being arrested at about 6 p.m. April 9 near 31st Street and Des Plaines Avenue, according to reports.
Police were dispatched to the intersection for a car accident, and a witness said a red Honda was traveling at a high rate of speed and rear-ended another vehicle, according to reports. Officers arrived on scene and saw Goodwin exit the car swaying significantly, police said. He had urinated in his pants, according to reports.
Goodwin’s speech was slurred to the point of incomprehension by officers, and he failed the field sobriety tests and refused to take a breathalyzer, police said.
Drug possession alleged
Richard Pikul, 45, of Elmhurst, was charged with possession with intent to deliver after being arrested at about 9:30 p.m. April 10 in the 0 to 100 block of Riverside Road, according to reports.
Officers saw a Dodge 4X4 traveling south on Riverside Road with expired registration, police said. When officers stopped the vehicle, they smelled a strong odor of burnt weed coming from the car, according to reports. Pikul said there was nothing illegal in his car, but officers located five plastic bags containing marijuana, police said.
Multiple pill bottles with no identification were located along with a glass pipe and a grinder, police said.
Pikul also was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana, according to reports.
WESTCHESTER
Harassment alleged
A woman was charged April 16 for harassment through electronic communications for creating and posting a Facebook account on the Internet using the personal information of a Westchester resident.
Police said Laura Special, 20, Franklin Park, was arrested at Triton College in Rover Grove following an investigation that began in November.
Navy deserter arrested
A Texas man was arrested during a traffic stop on a warrant from the U.S. Navy for desertion at about 9:15 p.m. April 13.
Police said Corey Salinas, 19, of Porter, Texas, was arrested after police discovered the warrant as they were checking the vehicle Salinas was in for obstructing traffic.
He was turned over to naval officials.
Fired employee arrested
A man was arrested for disorderly conduct after he made threats to employees at his work place where he had just been fired at about 1:45 p.m. April 15.
Police said Kashif Bhatti, 25, of Chicago, told employees at Wackenhut Security, 2235 Enterprise Drive, to “wait and see and watch and see what happens” before driving from the business.
He was arrested at the BP Amoco, at Wolf and Cermak roads, after the incident was reported to police.
Woman faces DUI charge
A La Grange woman was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding and improper lane usage after being arrested at about 4 a.m. April 12.
Police said Shallon Kyawe, 43, 14 S. Ashland Ave., was driving south on Mannheim Road when she drifted into the northbound lanes. She was driving 55 mph in a 40 mph speed zone, police added.
Kyawe failed field sobriety tests and failed to complete a breathalyzer test, police said.
Watches, checkbook stolen
A resident on the 2400 block of Mayfair Avenue reported two watches and a checkbook stolen from his home at about 1 p.m. April 6. A rear door had been found pried open, police said. The watches were valued at about $100.
Generator reported taken
A burglary to an unlocked garage was reported in the 1900 block of Portsmouth Avenue at 1:15 p.m. April 7. An electric generator valued at $300 was reported stolen, police said.
Domestic battery alleged
A Westchester woman was arrested for domestic battery after she struck a victim in the head with a hair dryer at 5 p.m. April 7.
Police said Shenitha Peoples, 30, 2413 Sweetbriar Ave., struck the victim during a verbal argument.
