Whether she was doing something with the Friends of the La Grange Library Board, volunteering her time for the local Meals on Wheels program or any of the other organizations she worked with, Molidor’s heart was always with the village.

Molidor died on Sunday at the age of 91. Her son, Tom Molidor, said she was active in her various organizations up until about five years ago.

“She loved the village and she loved seeing it grow and change,” Tom Molidor said.

Mary Lou Molidor also was involved with the BEDS Plus homeless shelter in La Grange, served on the Women’s Board of Community Service and Mental Health based in La Grange and also served as president of Nazareth Women’s Auxiliary.

Her son said she was known and loved by many in the community.

Mary Lou Molidor and her husband, Otto, moved to the village from Libertyville. Otto Molidor would ultimately serve on the La Grange Village Board.

“They lived in the same house on the 200 block of South Madison since 1954,” Tom Molidor said.

Tom Molidor said even the young people in his mother’s neighborhood knew her on a first-name basis.

“What really made her stand out (was) she really cared a lot and she listened to people. She would make so many people feel comfortable around her and welcome them,” Tom Molidor said. “I’m blown away that the neighbors have come over and helped, and offered things.”

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17 at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside.

Prayers will be at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18 at the funeral home. There will then be a funeral mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 124 North Spring Ave., La Grange, at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church are appreciated.
