Riverside, IL -

Police unknowingly stumbled upon a Riverside resident housing more than $1 million in cocaine April 10 while searching for an armed robbery suspect.

Javier Villa-Orozco, 36, was charged with five counts of possession of a controlled substance when police found more than 1,300 grams of cocaine at 212 E. Burlington Ave., according to reports. Villa-Orozco also was charged with five counts of manufacture and delivery of cocaine and one count of trafficking, according to reports.

The West Suburban Directed Gang Enforcement Task Force operations was out searching for Cesar Vazquez, 21, 2244 Oak Park Ave., Berwyn, who was considered a suspect in the March 31 Grumpy’s robbery when members of the task force received a tip that he may be in the Burlington home, according to reports.

Riverside Police Chief Tom Weitzel said Vazquez was the intended target but when Villa-Orozco opened  the door, a Berwyn officer spotted the cocaine set out on the table and in lines. Officers did a complete search of the home and brought in police canines from Berwyn.

The home was a typical drug house, according to Weitzel.

“Very little furniture — there were tables used for cutting, paraphernalia and scales,” Weitzel said. “We don’t believe he was actually dealing but that is where the delivery would be made, cut and delivered and sent out to the west side of Chicago for distribution.”

The house was abandoned and Villa-Orozco is not listed as the owner of the home, according to Weitzel. He said it looks like the cocaine is packaged from the Mexican Cartel, as the brick was pure cocaine coming directly from fields and shipped to the United States.

The investigation is ongoing with Riverside police working the Berwyn and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, according to Weitzel.

Later on April 10, Berwyn police spotted Vazquez and transported him to the Riverside police station, where a line-up was performed. The victim of the robbery at Grumpy’s positively identified him as being the offender. Vazquez was then charged with armed robbery.

Weitzel said Vazquez was currently out on bond after being charged with another armed robbery in Berwyn, police said.
