Taste of Brookfield at Your Library was a success
On behalf of the Brookfield Public Library Board, I would like to thank everyone involved for a very successful Oct. 3 “Taste of Brookfield at Your Library.”

This event would not have been possible without the donations, support and wonderful food and refreshments provided by the Brookfield business and restaurant community. Members of the Friends of Brookfield Library took the lead and contributed countless hours to bring this all together.

I would like to extend special thanks to Friends members Jo Day, Jane Huber, Sandra Baumgardner, Teresa Bross, Karen Moul and Library Director Kimberly Litland for all their work organizing the Taste; community member Marc Kritzer for his work setting up graphic design and event program; and our emcee for the evening, Linda Kampschroeder of the Salt Creek Wine Bar.

The high school volunteers from Riverside Brookfield High School deserve much recognition for helping out the entire evening. Finally, I want to give special thanks to all those who attended the Taste of Brookfield. Your support raised thousands of dollars for the library’s long-term development, and provided all with a wonderful evening.

Jonathan Platt, president, Brookfield Public Library Board

Library’s Batoberfest event deemed a success
On behalf of the Riverside Public Library Board and our patrons, we would like to publicly thank library director Janice Fisher and her library staff for all the effort and energy put forth recently to celebrate and promote the children’s book “Bats at the Library” by Brian Lies.

A fun-filled, successful community event was held at our library Oct. 10. Janice was instrumental in creating and promoting the idea of celebrating our library’s starring role in this book. Her vision, along with her entire dedicated staff, including the management team of Dorothy Sikora, Jackie Aumann, Anne Huston, Marilyn Oorbeck and Sharon Shroyer; and together with our Friends of the Library officers Ruth Julian, Kim Keldermans, Sarah Nielsen and Diane Harris, created a family event we will all long cherish.

The “batty” atmosphere in the library and throughout the community reflected the friendship and camaraderie that is the spirit of our library. Thank you for giving us Batoberfest.

Martha Heine, Riverside Public Library Board president

RB High School day of service very helpful
On Oct. 18, I had the pleasure of having five senior boys from Riverside Brookfield High School to my house along with a RB physics teacher.

Being a senior citizen, I had this group come in my backyard and almost completely redo it. They raked, cut and did some stone work for me — and all free of charge. This is one day a year in the fall these boys and girls come and do any work you want done. They have only worked hard and had a smile on their faces. This is a volunteer job that they do.

I think this group should get credit for giving up their Saturday for helping the seniors do jobs they couldn’t do. These boys are Josh Bozeday, Connor Halline, Bryan Smaller, Ben Varga and Josh Correa.

There were other groups from RB to help the seniors, but this group came and did a wonderful job for me. Thanks again.

Writer’s early voting experience very positive
We did early voting on Oct. 27 at the Bellwood City Hall.  They should be commended on the very efficient and convenient way the whole thing was run, especially from a senior citizen viewpoint.

They had very helpful staff, tables on which to fill out forms and chairs to sit in during the hour-plus wait. In addition, they had a special voting machine set aside for those who could not stand while voting — we were able to vote in comfort. All voting facilities should take a lesson from them.
