In an effort to promote ongoing community volunteerism, Giving DuPage invites members of the community to volunteer or host a collection drive for area agencies on Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The Giving DuPage Web site lists several opportunities to get involved in the community on the holiday:
• Catholic Charities is seeking laundry baskets full of personal hygiene items for the clients they serve;
• Giving DuPage encourages groups, families and individuals to get involved in the “Valentines for Vets” project spearheaded by the village of Glendale Heights and the District 87 Advocating Character Through Service Committee;
• Merit Hospice needs volunteers to deliver flowers to hospice patients throughout the county;
• Loaves and Fishes Community Pantry seeks people to host a food drive, volunteer at the pantry, or have a coin/cash collection to donate to the food pantry;
• People’s Resource Center is looking for volunteers for its food market and encourages groups to collect food for the market;
• Senior Home Sharing seeks volunteers to help in a variety of ways at their residential homes across DuPage County;
• Teen Parent Connection is seeking diapers, baby food, and adult toiletries for its parents’ pantry.
In addition to these opportunities earmarked for the holiday, the Giving DuPage Web site has hundreds of volunteer opportunities available at agencies throughout the county.
The site includes interactive volunteer matching to connect volunteers with local agencies. There are more than 200 agencies registered on the site and more than 20 causes are represented.
Giving DuPage is a nonprofit organization that exists to promote volunteerism and giving in DuPage County.
