Achievements

• Marmion Academy students selected to have their work published in the English department’s annual The Rev. Father Peter Enderlin OSB Writing Competition Literary Magazine include fiction honorable mention, Kelan McDonnell of Winfield with “The Pogo Stick”; and poetry first prize, Mitchell Thar of Winfield with “Bushels/Grey Rainbow/Adria.”

• Alison Gosewehr of Warrenville has received the Stribling Theatre Arts award at Loras College. Recognition was given to Gosewehr at a banquet on April 23 to honor students who received special awards.

• Aaron Becker, Megan Jones, Tracy Macias and Elizabeth Stout all of West Chicago were named to the 2008 spring dean's list at Western Illinois University in Macomb. To receive this award, a student must earn at least a 3.6 grade point average on a scale of 4.0 equals an A in 12 credit hours of graded courses.

• Andrew Denninger of Winfield has been awarded a monogrammed blanket for his participation in athletics at Hope College in Holland, Mich. The orange and blue “H” blankets are presented to seniors who earned at least three varsity letters while at the college. One of the varsity letters must have been earned during the student’s senior year. Students were recognized during the college’s honors convocation on April 24.

Denninger participated in track and field (captain) and cheerleading.

• Carolyn Wostratzky of West Chicago, majoring in communication/journalism, has been inducted into the Pleiades chapter of Mortar Board Senior Honor Society at Northern Illinois University. Induction into Mortar Board signifies high achievement in scholarship, leadership and service to the community. Nominees must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2 and demonstrate a commitment to these ideals.

• Katie Krempasky, Kevin Kruse II, Alana McGinty, Jennifer Naydenoff, Renee Olson, Eric Vinsel, Pearl Webb all of Warrenville; Kathryn Boland, Robert Conard, Kelly Krystinak, Brian Nolte, Jill Novak, Lauren Quiles, Lora Vodicka, Michael Youkhana all of West Chicago; and Douglas Tittman of Winfield have been named on the dean’s list for the spring 2008 semester at Illinois State University. Students who make the dean's list have achieved grade-point averages that place them in the top 10 percent of their respective colleges at the university.

Scholarships

• Matthew Andracki, Patrick Brooker, Elizabeth Buenrostro, Linnea Detrick, Dane Gunderson, Rachel Howe, Samantha Nolte and Steven Szul, all of West Chicago’s Community High School District 94, were awarded scholarships from the Thorium Action Group/Kerr-McGee Chemical Corp. Scholarship Endowment Fund, which is administered by the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley.

Graduates

• Joseph Klingberg of West Chicago graduated from the University of Iowa Tippie Business College on May 17 with degrees in marketing and finance.
