Villa Park, IL -

DuPage High School District 88 is looking for a resident to fill a seat on the Board of Education after a vacancy was declared earlier this week.

Paul Habel notified the board Monday he had moved out of the district’s area and would no longer be qualified to serve on the board, said District 88 spokeswoman Sherri Anderson.

The board that serves Willowbrook High School in Villa Park and Addison Trail High School in Addison must appoint a new member within 45 days, and the new board member will serve until Habel's term would have expired in April 2011.

To be eligible, residents must be 18 years of age or older by the date of the appointment, must be a resident of the state and district for at least one year prior to the appointment, must be a registered voter and not a school trustee or school treasurer, and must complete a State of Economic Interest form and file it with the DuPage County Clerk's office.

Interested candidates should obtain and complete a District 88 information form indicating education, work history and other volunteer or community related activities.

In addition, candidates should submit a letter of application outlining why they would like to serve on the Board of Education.

The board will conduct interviews on Aug. 4 and announce their appointment at a meeting Aug. 24.
