There’s still time to sign the kids up for camps to keep them busy and active this summer. Both Villa Park and Oakbrook Terrace are offering camps.
Villa Park
A Junior Adventure and Adventure Camp will be offered Monday, June 16, through Friday, Aug. 15, at the Iowa Community Center, 338 N. Iowa Ave. Junior Adventure is for ages 5 to 8, and Adventure Camp is for ages 8 to 12. You can sign up for all nine weeks or pick and choose the weeks you need. Each week has a special theme and all will offer field trips, fishing, outdoor adventures, cookouts and special events that will keep the kids happy and busy under the supervision of experienced camp staff.
Regular camp hours are 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. Optional before- and after-camp programs are available from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and 3:30 to 6 p.m. Campers should bring a lunch each day, except certain field trip days that include lunch. All activities are included in the camp fee.
Villa Park Recreation offers a nice option for kids who don’t attend camp. Travel Kids lets kids attend the weekly field trips the campers attend. You can sign up for all the trips or choose your favorite destinations. The trips usually leave the Iowa Community Center at 9 a.m. and return by 3:30 p.m.
If you like water parks, you have several to choose from, including trips to Seafari Springs in Hanover Park, the Wheeling Water Park and Pelican Harbor in Bolingbrook.

Oakbrook Terrace
A special camp for preschoolers will keep the little ones busy, with many engaging activities planned both indoors and outdoors, including a daily picnic. The program will be run by the preschool director and assistant director. You can sign up for a half-day session from 9 a.m. to noon or the full day that goes to 3 p.m. The camp will meet Tuesday through Thursday. Sessions are available in July and August.
Kids Camp is geared for kids entering first to sixth grades in the fall. The Park District will offer two camps: one at Heritage Park and one at Terrace View Park. Both camps will include many activities, such as field trips, crafts, sports, games and much more. Camps at both locations will include similar activities and structures but with different “home bases.” The camps run through Friday, Aug. 8.
Area teens can take part in Extreme Teen Challenge this summer. The Park District says this is not a camp but an experience. Each week, teens will be assigned to a team and compete in daily challenges to score points for their team. Challenges will involve a variety of activities and mainly occur during daily field trips.
Extreme Teen Challenge is for teens entering seventh to 11th grades in the fall. For information on all Oakbrook Terrace Park District camps, call (630) 627-6100.
