Two armed robberies occurred in downtown Hinsdale Friday morning.
Hinsdale Police Chief Bradley Bloom said the armed robberies occurred about 10 minutes apart and appear to be connected to each other.
At about 9:45 a.m., two black men, who both appeared to be about 40 years old, entered the National City Office, 911 N. Elm St., displayed a fire arm and demanded cash, according to police. When they found out there was none on the premise, they bound the employee’s hands and feet with tape and left, police said.
From there, police believe the same offenders went to the Chase Bank Mortgage Office, 19 W. First St., again displayed a silver hand gun and demanded money.
After again finding out the business contained no money, the two men tied up the employee and fled the scene. Police said neither victim was injured during these incidents.
Bloom said these are unusual offenses because neither location conducts any financial transactions, and both businesses are somewhat out of the way; National City office is located on the third floor and Chase is situated on the second floor.
“They’re both very unusual occurrences not just for Hinsdale, but in general it’s not something you normally see in law enforcement,” Bloom said.
Police are checking video surveillance systems in the area and hoping to come up with some leads.
One man is described as heavyset at 5-foot-eleven and 250 pounds. He was wearing a floppy hat and sunglasses and carrying the silver handgun. The other black male is described at being about 6-feet in height and 200 pounds.
Deputy Police Chief Mark Wodka does not believe anyone is in danger.
“We have no information indicating that they're still in the area and that there's any imminent threat to the schools, businesses or our residents,” Wodka said.
Police encourage anyone who was in the downtown district at the time of the crimes who saw anything unusual or people matching the description of these men to call the Hinsdale Police Department at (630) 789-7070.
