Man in car shot in arm
A passenger in a white van was shot in the arm by an unknown gunman in the early morning hours of Sept. 12.

The Berwyn Police Department received a call at about 1:20 a.m. Sept. 12 to a report that a passenger inside his car was struck in the arm by a bullet that was shot into the van’s window, according to police.

The vehicle was eastbound on Roosevelt Road and was waiting to turn left onto Ridgeland Avenue when the driver of the vehicle saw a man standing about 75 feet south on the sidewalk in the 1200 block of Ridgeland Avenue, police said.

The driver told police the man fired a shot in the direction of the vehicle, which pierced the rear driver side window and struck the passenger in the forearm.

The driver took the man to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn where he was treated.

Woman robbed at gunpoint
Two men robbed a woman at gunpoint in the 6900 block of West Roosevelt Road at about 1:30 p.m. Sept. 15.

The victim told police the two men entered Hidden Faces Beauty Salon, 6915 W. Roosevelt Road, and one of the men opened the door with a headband over his face and asked if she had a bathroom. He was described as a Hispanic male, 30 to 35 years old, with a thin build, police said.

The man was walking to the bathroom when another Hispanic man, 25 to 30 years old, with a medium build and short or shaved hair, entered the business with a small gun and told the victim to sit down and take off all her jewelry, police said.

The two men took about $400 to $500 in cash from the register, more than $600 in cash from the victim’s purse, various gold jewelry, other miscellaneous items, and left the salon, police said.

Paramedics assaulted
A police officer used a Taser on a Berwyn man after he allegedly becoming combative and striking two paramedics Sept. 17, police said.

Paramedics and police responded to a call in the 1500 block of Highland Avenue at about 2:30 p.m. Sept. 17 to treat the man. Paramedics helped the man into the ambulance and he began to resist treatment, police said.

Officers attempted to place restraints on the man but he continued to kick his legs and move his arms attempting to leave the ambulance, police said. Officers were able to put restraints on the man, but he eventually broke free and began to swing his arms and struck a paramedic on the left side of the face with a closed fist and kneed another paramedic in the chest, police said.

Another officer arrived and used his Taser on the man to subdue him, police said. The man was secured to the gurney with handcuffs and transported to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, police said.
The man is not being identified until charges are filed, which did not happen before press time.
