Bowling for a cure
A bowling fundraiser to benefit the Berwyn-Cicero Relay for Life will be held from 7 p.m. to midnight Thursday, May 21, at Town Hall Bowl, 5025 W. 25th St., Cicero. Each game will cost $1.50 with 50 cents of the proceeds going to Relay for Life. Alicia Navarro, of Morton College Friends for Life, will work as a celebrity bartender for the fund raiser and donate all tips to the cause.
All the details
About 30 teams of eight to 15 people have registered to participate in the annual event, which is expected to raise more than $100,000 for education and research. The event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. May 29 and continues through the night until 6:30 a.m. May 30. Teams are asked to have at least one member walking the track at all times. Each member is asked to raise at least $100.
Staying awake
To help people participate for the whole 12 hours, teams will set up campsites near the track so they can socialize while they are not walking laps. Bingo and movies will be available throughout the night and breakfast will be provided in the morning after the closing ceremony.
Goodies and more
A $5 raffle ticket will give participants a shot at winning a 32-inch high definition television, donated by Best Buy. The night will also include silent auctions, vendors, a disc jockey and children’s activities which will be open to the public until 9 p.m. All activities will cease at 9 p.m. for the luminary ceremony. To honor those who have battled cancer, participants may purchase $10 luminaria, which will remain lighted around the track throughout the night.
At home at Morton
This is the 12th straight year the event will be held at the Morton College campus, 3801 S. Central Ave., Cicero. More than 450 people are expected to participate in the event’s relay, opening and closing ceremonies, and survivor’s dinner.
