A wave of absences means St. Charles East will close its doors through the end of the week, which will effect extracurricular activities as well.
Extracurricular events scheduled for today will continue as planned, but events for the rest of the week, including Friday's football game against St. Charles North and the related kickathon.
"The level of absences reached such a point that it made the day-to-day operation of the school almost impossible," District 303 Director of School and Community Relations Jim Blaney said. "Some classes had so few students that the teachers would have had to do their lessons again."
As far as the postponed after-school activities, Blaney said they will be rescheduled at a later date that has not yet been determined.
