Saints earn state berth

They don't come much closer than this.
At Monday's St. Charles East sectional golf tournament at St. Andrews in West Chicago, the host Saints and Hinsdale Central were left to battle it out for second place after Waubonsie Valley posted a 302 team score.
Tied at 232 with four scores in, it literally went down to the wire with the Saints edging the Red Devils 304-305 for the second and final state berth on the strength of a 73 from Jordan Wetsch and Wes Apple's 72 as their last score of the day.
Nate Esler posted a 79 and Kyle Cook an 80 to also count for East. Tom Laudadio and Jon Woods each had an 82.
The Saints will start state competition Friday at The Den at Fox Creek Golf Course in Bloomington.
St. Charles North
Jake Helgeson and Pete Roschmann represented the North Stars at Monday's sectional after qualifying out of the Streamwood regional.
Helgeson finished his round with an 88 while Roschmann carded a 94.
