St. Charles North baseball alumnus Rob Currie and Dan Jimenez were selected in the Major League Baseball amateur draft.
Currie, a 2005 graduate, was taken in 12th round by the Milwaukee Brewers with the 376th pick.
Pitching for Tusculum College in Tennessee, Currie was recently named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-American Team last month. He was also named to three NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region teams this year.
Currie was the ace of the Tusculum bullpen this past season, making 21 appearances where he posted a 5-1 record with a 1.21 earned run average to go along with six saves. The six saves are the fourth-most ever by a Pioneer reliever. Currie limited the opposition to a .213 batting average, while striking out at team-best 57 with only 20 walks in his 52 innings of work.
As a senior at St. Charles North, Currie finished 5-3 with a 2.01 ERA for the Upstate Eight Conference champion North Stars. In 59 1/3 innings, the workhorse of the staff fanned 51 while walking just 15.
Jimenez, a freshman at John Logan Community College in Carterville, IL, was taken in the 23rd round by the Cleveland Indians with pick 695.
This season Jimenez led the Logan staff with 89 1/3 innings and a 2.02 earned run average. He struck out 94 this season while finishing with a stellar 6-2 record.
Last spring as a senior at North, Jimenez went 8-2 with a 1.72 ERA in 53 innings. He also struck out 85 and surrendered just 30 hits and was named to the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association all-Chicagoland team.
He was drafted in the 37th round by the St. Louis Cardinals last year but put his name back in the draft after a season of college ball.
