A Batavia woman and Geneva man were among eight Kane County employees cited for selling alcohol to a minor as part of a compliance check by the Kane County Sheriff’s Department.
During the Nov. 6 sting, Benjamin R. Zarate, 25, 0N543 Armstrong Lane, an employee of Mill Creek Country Market, 39W250 Herrington Blvd., Geneva, and Nicole A. Nebren, 26, 503 McKinley St., an employee of Rudy’s Place, 900 Hill Ave., Aurora, were charged with one count of unlawful sale of liquor to a minor.
The Kane County Sheriff’s Department conducts liquor-compliance inspections randomly or if complaints are received about a particular business selling to minors, said Kane County Sheriff’s Lt. Pat Gengler.
Undercover agents are used during the checks in several roles.
Besides the Geneva store, seven other employees at Kane County businesses, including stores in Elburn, Aurora, Sugar Grove, Maple Park and Virgil were charged.
Employees at seven other businesses did not sell alcohol to minors, officials said, including T.F. Boonies, 39W808 Hughes Road, Geneva, and Fox View Liquors, 6N559 Route 25, St. Charles.
The sting was done in cooperation with the Illinois State Police and Illinois Liquor Commission.
The stores could have their liquor licenses suspended and be fined, said Barbara Rahden, Kane County liquor control coordinator.
