ST. CHARLES

Thefts reported

  • At 2 p.m. Oct. 30 at the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave., a bicycle valued at $200 was reported stolen. The library’s camera recorded a “stocky white male” taking the bicycle.
  • At 3:15 p.m. Nov. 16 at the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave., a bicycle valued at $100 was stolen. The bike was parked out of sight of the library’s camera.
  • At 10:30 a.m. Nov. 6 at St. Charles East High School, 1020 Dunham Road, a black and silver iPhone was reported stolen from a faculty member.
  • Between 4:15 p.m. Oct. 9 and 8 a.m. Oct. 14 at St. Charles East High School, 1020 Dunham Road, a Sony Handycam Model DCR-SR220 still in its box was stolen. The school was not in session when the camera was found missing, but students had been using the room where the camera was located.


Retail thefts reported

  • At 8:11 p.m. Nov. 7 at Dominick’s, 2063 Lincoln Highway, a 750 ml bottle of Cazadores Tequila was stolen.
  • At 2:45 p.m. Nov. 8 at Jewel, 652 N. Kirk Road, two 175 ml bottles of Cazadores Tequila were stolen by a female suspect in a Ford four-door vehicle.
  • Craig Duane Carr, 44, 238 N. Fifth St., was charged with retail theft after allegedly stealing Mexoderm male enhancement cream and a bottle of Zyrexin totaling $36.71 from Wal-Mart, 150 Smith Road at 5:37 p.m. Nov. 13, police said. It was Carr’s first retail theft offense. According to police, he said he stole the items because he was too embarrassed to purchase them. He was given a Dec. 3 court date.
  • Emily Ann Tams, 17, 10590 Wing Pointe Drive, was charged with retail theft after allegedly stealing two tops worth $73 from Von Maur, at 6:19 p.m. Nov. 11, police said.
  • Brett Allan Priggle, 49, 40 W 781 Winchester Way was charged with retail theft after allegedly stealing 15 bundles of firewood at $86 from Jewel, 1073 Prairie St., reports said. He was given a Dec. 16 court date.


Theft by deception
Between 1:15 and 3:30 p.m. Nov. 12, a woman was loading her groceries into her car at Butera, 2732 E. Main St., when two women walked up and showed her a bag full of what appeared to be money, which they said contained $100,000, police said. The women told the victim they would give her $25,000, but first needed money from her to take to the bank. The victim ended up giving the women $2,100 in $100 bills, and the suspects left.

Marijuana possession
Michael Joseph Gawlik, 27, 102 N. Fifth Ave., was charged with possessing more than 10 grams and less than 30 grams of marijuana, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and a seat belt violation at 11:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at Fifth Avenue and East Main Street, police said..

Criminal damage to property

  • At 9:27 p.m. Nov. 16 at St. Charles’ water filtration plant, 2595 Oak St., large circles were made in the lawn by a vehicle.
  • Between 11 p.m. Nov. 14 and 2 a.m. Nov. 15, a wooden mailbox was damaged by a pumpkin on the 1200 block of Keim Trail.
  • At 12:29 a.m. Nov. 14 at the Charlestowne 18, 3740 E. Main St., the walls, posters and ticket kiosk were damaged with obscene and other phrases.
  • Between noon Nov. 15 and 6:30 a.m. Nov. 16, the drivers’ side window of a car was smashed out on the 1500 block of Deerfield Court.
  • Between 6 p.m. Nov. 16 and 7:30 a.m. Nov. 17 at EM&J Rental, 800 Cedar Ave., black graffiti was sprayed across the property.
  • Between 5:01 p.m. Nov. 13 and 7:59 a.m. Nov. 16 on the 1400 block of Dean Street, a grill from a 2002 Chevrolet Express was cracked from what police said was somebody trying to pry out the parking light.
  • Between noon Nov. 12 and 11 a.m. Nov. 18 on the 600 block of Jackson Avenue, a rear window wiper was snapped off of a car.


Credit card fraud
A resident of the 200 block of Valley View Drive reported $173.11 was charged to his card Nov. 4 while the card was in his possession. Police are not sure whether the card was out of his possession, but the victim had made a transaction himself that day. The debit was paid to “Gerado Laguna,” according to reports.

Burglary reported
Between 8:30 p.m. Nov. 13 and 5:47 a.m. Nov. 14 on the 1900 block of Walnut Street, a 50-inch flat-screen television was stolen and a 28 by 36 inch glass window was smashed out.

Fraud by wire
Between 1:30 and 2:56 p.m. Nov. 11 at Julian’s Collison Center, 3985 Commerce Drive, the business received a call from someone using IP Relay, an Internet phone relay service for those who are deaf or hard of hearing. The suspect was asking for work on a car and asked the shop’s owner to charge amounts to his credit card. The relay operator told the man at the business that this is a commonly run scam. Police told the owner to ignore any further calls or e-mails from the suspect.
