Layoffs at Batavia’s Fermilab will be fewer than previously announced.
The layoffs will likely not be implemented earlier than the week of May 19, according to a company newsletter published Thursday. About 140 employees will be laid off, as opposed to about 200 previously thought.
The layoffs are related to a recent federal budget that slashed Fermilab’s budget by $60 million. Other facilities around the country that could be impacted include NASA and the National Institutes of Health.
