St. Charles announced violation numbers for a red light camera which has been in place for the last year.
The camera, at the intercession of Second and West Main streets, has captured 489 violations in the last year. Each violation was reviewed by an employee from Redflex, the camera company, and then by a St. Charles police officer.
The Redflex employee rejected photos based on camera errors, obstructed or missing license plates or other technical problems. Roughly 68 tickets were rejected for these reasons.
An officer reviewed each remaining video to see if the offense was valid and worthy of a ticket.
Officers determined 63 of the violations were invalid or were legal turns on red lights.
Of the 489 violations, 358 tickets were written.
About 89 percent of the violations occurring through August of this year have been paid.
