A local high school student is dead after a two-car crash that closed down a mile-and-a-half stretch of Randall Road Friday afternoon, police say.
Burlington High School student Jerry Martinez, 16, of Elgin, was killed in the fatal accident at Randall and Red Gate roads in St. Charles, according to Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Lt. Pat Gengler.
After an early dismissal at school, Martinez was allegedly driving north on Randall Road at 12:10 p.m. when his 2000 Toyota Camry collided head on with a 2004 Lincoln Navigator turning left on Red Gate from Randall Road.
Martinez was taken to Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva, where he was pronounced deceased. The driver and passenger of the Lincoln, 35-year-old Victoria Marie Biniak of South Elgin and 4-year-old Elisa Biniak, were also taken to Delnor with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Kane County Sheriff's Department and Kane County Accident Reconstruction team is still investigating the circumstances of the crash. No citations have been issued.
The accident has shut down Randall Road between Crane and Bolcum roads. The mile-and-a-half stretch is expected to remain closed for a significant period of time.
The closure is likely to affect student pick-up at the nearby St. Charles North High School. Police suggest avoiding the area by taking Route 31 as a detour.
