As the city of St. Charles celebrates its 175-year anniversary, the Downtown St. Charles Partnership’s public art committee selling a variety of St. Charles art and gift items.

Proceeds from the sales will benefit both the public art fund for downtown St. Charles and the partnership’s general programming and services.

Items directly benefiting the public art committee and its efforts to purchase or commission works to be installed throughout the downtown district include: sets of five boxed notecards featuring photos of art in downtown St. Charles, with photography by Sally Stancati; and music box snow globes depicting downtown St. Charles. The music box in the base plays the tune  “What a Wonderful World.”

To benefit its general programming and services, such as the award-winning Electric Christmas Parade and the annual Fine Art Show, the partnership has made available giclee prints, artist’s proofs and posters of “Heart of St. Charles,” an original painting created by Ukrainian artist Vitaly Mikhailov.

The limited edition work — only 195 numbered and signed giclee prints were produced — captures the Fox River and the floral riverfront of the downtown, with historic Hotel Baker in the background. The scene is based on a photograph by local photographer Brian DeWolf.

Ranging from $10 for the poster or the set of five boxed notecards, $49.95 for the music box snow globes, and $240 for the giclee prints (unframed), the reasonable price points give everyone an opportunity to select and purchase a commemorative item in celebration of the community's milestone, and to help shape its future. As gifts for friends, relatives, teachers, employees — or as a personal keepsake — the items in the collection all represent the public art for which St. Charles is so renowned.

The St. Charles commemorative items are available at:

• Downtown St. Charles Partnership office, 213 Walnut St.: all items;

• La Galerie, 219 W. Main St.: giclee prints and artist’s proofs;

• Blue Goose Supermarket, 300 S. Second St.: music box snow globes;

• The St. Charles Heritage Center, 215 E. Main St.: posters and music box snow globes;

• Pheasant Run Resort, 4051 E. Main St.: notecards and posters.

The Downtown St. Charles Partnership is a nonprofit organization with the mission of enhancing the economic viability and preserving the character and beauty of downtown St. Charles.
