St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 nearly learned the literal meaning of “a ton of food” this month.

Students and faculty participated in “Helping Hands Across America” from Nov. 9 through Nov. 12 and collected 678 pounds and 12 ounces of food.

The program was done with the help of Sodexo Food Services.

The idea of the program was to collect as much food as possible with the goal of setting a Guinness World Record for food collection nationwide.

All of the food District 303 collected was donated to the Northern Illinois Food Bank in St. Charles.
