Juggling eight dates in one night is a circus act. But luckily, 8minuteDating.com makes the dating scene seem like less of a circus and more like a fun, organized date night that can possibly catapult a relationship and help eliminate clowns.
8minuteDating.com is a speed dating company headquartered in Boston that offers a person eight dates in one night. Several speed dating nights are coming to the western suburbs: Tuesdays, Feb. 1 and March 1 at Sawa’s Old Warsaw in Broadview and Monday, Feb. 7 at Blackfinn American Saloon in Naperville.
Sandy Manisco, the western suburb organizer of 8minuteDating.com, says many of the upcoming date nights fall in line with Valentine’s Day, giving participants the chance to find someone special prior to the holiday. The cupidParty events are open to men and women as young as 30 years old. Meeting someone for networking or friendship is also encouraged.
“There really isn’t this type of event in the western suburbs,” Manisco says. “It’s a fun, safe and casual way to meet people.”
Singles have eight dates that last eight minutes each. Each participant receives a dating card that helps them keep track of whom they’ve spoken with and lists conversation starters, Manisco says. “We’ve found that eight minutes is just enough time to see if you want to see that person again,” she says.
It is encouraged that phone numbers are not exchanged between singles at the event. Following each date, if both participants indicate they would like to meet again, the 8minuteDating.com organizers will provide phone numbers and e-mail addresses to both parties, Manisco says. “We want to take the pressure off,” she says.
The cost is $35 per person and includes complimentary appetizers and a cash bar. Registration is available at www.8minutedating.com. Participants are put on a wait list in order to see if an even number of men and women have signed up for a date night, Manisco says.
The deadline to sign up is two days prior to the event. A person is guaranteed to meet someone they would like to see again or their next event is free. More 8minuteDating.com events may come to the Fox Valley area, Manisco added.
FastDater.com offers three-minute speed dating on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at Volare restaurant in Oakbrook Terrace. The event is open to ages 30 to 45 for $42 per person.
