• In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Salon 21, 32 Danada Square West in Wheaton, in coordination with the American Cancer Society, is sponsoring a Fall Wig and Extension Show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12. The show will include wigs, hairpieces, extensions, and chemotherapy scarves and hats. Enjoy complimentary massages, hand treatments and refreshments. Prizes, raffles, and discount coupons for services in the salon and spa will be awarded to guests and 10 percent of all proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society. • The Hinsdale Fire Department will go head-to-head with the Hinsdale Police Department in a friendly competition to collect  blood for the Adventist Hinsdale Hospital Blood Center. This annual lifesaving event will be held throughout October. Anyone who donates blood during the month of October will have the opportunity to vote for either Hinsdale’s fire department or police department. The agency with the most votes will win a pizza party hosted the Blood Center. The Adventist Hinsdale Hospital Blood Center is located at 121 N. Elm St. They will be holding a special blood drive from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21. For further information, call (630) 856-7837.

 

• Ranging from an entire house down to a diminutive bath, seven Drury Design projects recently received 2008 National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) Design Vision awards. Drury Design Kitchen & Bath Studio is located in Glen Ellyn. NKBA’s Chicago Midwest chapter sponsors the Design Vision contest in partnership with Trends magazine. Judged by NKBA Chicago Midwest chapter members, the contest recognizes outstanding kitchen and bath design. Competition is open to designers throughout the Midwest. Congratulations to four Drury Designers who received 13 total awards including six honorable mentions: Gladys Schanstra won six awards; Tina Muller won three awards; Gail Drury won two awards; and Janice Teague who won two awards. • Linda Cohen, a crew member for Noah’s Ark Workshop in Wheaton, is taking anchor in the Wheaton area and hosting a Opp “Bear”tunities Night. This event will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 21, at Panera Brea, 25 Rice Lake Square, Wheaton. The workshop will feature finding out about the opportunity in becoming a children’s party leader with Noah’s Ark. Linda will answer questions and provide examples of what it’s like to be a party leader. Light refreshments will be provided and the event is free to attend.
