LOMBARD – Montini is one win away from its first ever undefeated season. The Broncos beat Sycamore 42-20 in a Class 5A state semifinal Saturday afternoon in Lombard to make a fifth straight trip to the state final.
DOWNERS GROVE – The future is now for the Downers Grove North boys basketball team. Boasting a lineup stacked with a bevy of sophomore and junior talent, the Trojans will be looking to reach the .500 mark record-wise for the first time in head coach Jim Thomas’ tenure.
WESTMONT – The Westmont boys basketball team can hear the chatter resonating from opposing coaches and players and some media outlets.
Three individuals and two relays represented York at the state preliminaries on Friday at New Trier. None of the entries advanced to Saturday’s finals. Senior Hannah Nolte closed out her swimming career with a 43rd place finish in the 100-yard backstroke and was a part of both relays.
Kelly McNamara claimed a second place medal in the IHSA state meet at New Trier on Saturday. The Willowbrook junior was the runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.11 seconds. McNamara finished behind only Fenwick’s Texas-bound Mimi Schneider.
Both IC Catholic and Timothy Christian lost their leading scorer from a year ago, but both teams have key starters back as well. The Knights are gunning for a third straight conference title.
LOMBARD – The Broncos had a breakout season last year, but fell just short of the Suburban Christian Gold title. Matching that success will be tough this year with the departure of all-conference forward Simmie Cobbs.
VILLA PARK – A lot of new faces are in the Willowbrook program this year. The top three leading scorers from last year, Josh Joiner, Tiger Greene and Yashua Trent, are all gone, with the trio playing in junior college this year.
ELMHURST – How do you replace a star point guard like David Cohn? You don’t. At least that’s what York coach Vince Doran is saying. Frank Toohey leads a York team hoping to succeed without their former star guard.
DOWNERS GROVE – Kris Olson's familiarity with the Downers Grove South boys basketball team should ease his transition to varsity head coach. The former Mustangs' JV coach climbed the ladder to varsity this past offseason, filling a void left by the recently departed Jay Baum

CAROL STREAM – Coming off an outstanding summer campaign, the Glenbard North boys basketball team headed into the 2013-14 season with plenty of momentum and high expectations.
WHEATON – With 17 players within the Wheaton North boys basketball program also on the football team that advanced to the Class 7A quarterfinals, it could take a little while for the Falcons to gel this season. But once they do, coach Dave Brackmann is excited about the possibilities.
WEST CHICAGO - Though its final record might not indicate it, the West Chicago boys basketball team wasn’t all that far from respectability last winter. Now the challenge ahead is trying to take the next step, a process that coach Bill Recchia believes started in the offseason.
GLEN ELLYN – With head coach Wade Hardtke being the tallest guy on the bus this winter, Glenbard South’s boys basketball team will rely on its athleticism as the Raiders begin the 2013-14 season.
