The Avery Coonley School Enjoys Strong Alumni Involvement

SPONSORED

Students who graduate from The Avery Coonley School after eighth grade become official alumni of the school. Most become active members of the alumni community, enjoying special connections with each other and with their former teachers and mentors. According to Barbara Cosentino, Associate Director of Alumni Relations for ACS, the goal is for every alumnus to always feel welcome and embraced by the campus community.

"We want our alumni to remember they're always part of the ACS family," she explained. "To help strengthen that connection, we invite alumni to campus happenings, alumni gatherings, and community events. We invite them to volunteer their time throughout the year at special events, such as high school panels for our Middle School students, community civic engagement opportunities, and large-scale affairs like our annual Auction.

Alumni also serve various leadership roles on the school's Board of Trustees and Alumni Council. They're included in guiding the school's strategic plan initiatives, and they receive a monthly newsletter to stay current with campus events. "ACS is a very special place, and alumni have spoken of the positive influence the school has had on their lives, as well as on their careers," added Cosentino. "Many return to serve as guest speakers for classes, and to discuss secondary school options with parents. Two alumni speak at every graduation ceremony; one is 10 years or fewer out of ACS, and the other is a more seasoned alumnus. Those speeches are always received very positively by the entire campus community."

Cosentino is very proud of each ACS alumnus. "Our alumni are the most amazing, talented people," she said. "It's always impressive to see the interesting career paths many of them take, and to see the type of people they become. Overall, they're kind, intelligent, and creative go-getters. They have a lot of enthusiasm and grit, and their accomplishments are awe-inspiring." For more information about alumni involvement at ACS, please contact:
