The Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry officially kicked off its Centennial Celebration year at our 99th Annual Award Gala and 100th Birthday Bash held at The Drake Oak Brook Hotel on January 26 and will conclude in January of 2019 at our 100th Awards Gala.
Co-sponsored by Suburban Bank & Trust and Inland Bank, our Awards Gala honored both businesses and individuals for their contributions to our Chamber and community during 2017.
Our honorees included Brewpoint Coffee as the A.J. “Toche” Terrones Business of the Year, Board of Directors Treasurer Ralph Pechanio as the Chairman’s Award recipient, Nancy Peterson of Elmhurst-Yorkfield Food Pantry as Ambassador of the Year and Jack Island of The Silverado Grill as the 26th inductee into the ECCI Civic Hall of Fame.
At our 98th Awards Gala in January of 2017, we unveiled plans for a $250,000 Centennial Celebration Capital Campaign—starting with a $100,000 gift by Ralph Pechanio to endow the Chamber’s $150,000 Ralph P. Pechanio Student Internship Fund at Elmhurst College and my $25,000 pledge to the $100,000 Second Century Fund, which includes $50,000 for development a public Civic Hall of Fame Memorial.
Since going “public” last September, our Capital Campaign is at 67 percent of goal, with $168,968 in gifts and pledges. The Endowment Fund is at 81% of goal, while the Second Century Fund is at 48% of goal, with unrestricted at 76% and Civic Hall of Fame at 19%.
Featuring a centerspread Centennial Celebration special section, our 2018 Elmhurst Community Directory (produced by Shaw Media) is now available at numerous locations around town, including City Hall, Public Library, Park District and others. Some 19,200 Directories were direct mailed to Elmhurst residences, businesses and Post Office boxes in January.
Celebrating our Centennial will be mostly about having fun and playing games—including (coming soon) Elmhurst-Opoly!!!
